Join us at the headwaters of the main branch Kalamazoo where we will journey through some of Albion’s history as the proud location of “The Forks”. We will paddle from Rieger Park to the second B Dr. N bridge crossing. This is a 3hr/6.69mile paddle. Bagels and coffee will be provided at Reiger Park before the paddle.

Kayak rentals will be available through KRWC. If you’re renting a boat, a donation of $15 is recommended, all proceeds support our programs. Limited vessels available for rent, register to reserve your vessel. If cost or mobility is a barrier for you, email programs@kalamazooriver.org.

Vessel drop off/check-in: Paddlers will park at Reiger Park and check in with their personal watercraft at 10:30am. Those who are renting a watercraft will find their boats waiting for them here. The float will begin from this location at 11:00am.

Vehicle shuttle provided: Yes, courtesy of Monique Bryant with Marshall Public Schools Transportation. A shuttle will arrive at the B Dr. N take-out location and will depart at 3:00pm to bring paddlers back to their vehicles at Reiger Park. Someone will be guarding the watercraft at the endpoint until paddlers pick them up.

In consideration of participating in the sports of kayaking or canoeing, and for other good and valuable consideration, I hereby agree to release and discharge from all liability arising from any action or failure to act, including negligence or gross negligence, THE KALAMAZOO RIVER WATERSHED COUNCIL (KRWC) and its directors, officers, employees, agents, volunteers, participants, and all other persons or entities acting for them (hereinafter collectively referred to as “Releasees”), on behalf of myself and my children, parents, heirs, assigns, personal representative and estate, and also agree as follows: 1. I acknowledge that the sports of kayaking or canoeing involves known and unanticipated risks which could result in physical or emotional injury, paralysis or permanent disability, death, and property damage. Risks include, but are not limited to, death as a result of drowning or brain injury caused by near drowning; broken bones, torn ligaments, or strains as a result of falls while launching or exiting the water or while carrying a kayak or canoe; medical conditions resulting from physical activity; and damaged clothing or other property. I understand such risks simply cannot be eliminated, despite the use of safety equipment, without jeopardizing the essential qualities of the activity. 2. I expressly accept and assume all of the risk inherent in this activity or that might have been caused by the negligence of the Releasees. My participation in this activity is purely voluntary and I elect to participate despite the risks. In addition, if at any time I believe that event conditions are unsafe or that I am unable to participate due to physical or medical conditions, then I will immediately discontinue participation. 3. I hereby voluntarily release, forever discharge, and agree to indemnify and hold harmless Releasees from any and all claims, demands, or causes of action which are in any way connected with my participation in this activity, or my use of their equipment or facilities, arising from negligence. Should Releasees or anyone acting on their behalf be required to incur attorney’s fees and costs to enforce this agreement, I agree to indemnify and hold them harmless for all such fees and costs. 4. I represent that I have adequate insurance to cover any injury or damage I may suffer or cause while participating in this activity, or else I agree to bear the costs of such injury or damage myself. I further represent that I have no medical or physical condition which could interfere with my safety in this activity, or else I am willing to assume and bear the costs of all risks that may be created, directly, or indirectly, by any such condition. 5. I agree that all claims and actions relating to this agreement and today’s activity shall be filed in, litigated in, and governed by the laws of the State of Michigan in Kalamazoo County. 6. I agree that if any portion of this agreement is found to be void or unenforceable, the remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect. 7. I hereby give permission for images to be taken through video, photo, and/or digital camera to be used solely for the purpose of KRWC material and publications, and waive any rights of compensation or ownership. ___ I do not give my permission to appear in KRWC video, photo, and/or digital camera images. By signing this document, I agree that if I am hurt or my property is damaged during my participation in this activity, then I may be found by a court of law to have waived my right to maintain a lawsuit against the parties being released on the basis of any claim including negligence and gross negligence. I have had sufficient time to read this entire document and, should I choose to do so, consult with legal counsel prior to signing. Also, I understand that this activity might not be made available to me or that the cost to engage in this activity would be significantly greater if I were to choose not to sign this release, and agree that the opportunity to participate at the stated cost in return for the execution of this release is a reasonable bargain. I have read and understood this document and I agree to be bound by its terms.

2.5 hour/5-mile paddle from Watertrail Ventures to Hacklander along with a Birding or Flora expert guide. This will be a staggered launch, we will launch groups every 30 minutes, starting at 8:00am, 8:30am, 9:00am, and 9:30am. Bagles, fruit, tea & coffee will be provided! If you are renting equipment from Watertrail Ventures, you will be paying at the launch day of, $15 either style. BYOB, bring your own binoculars!

Please arrive at least one hour before your scheduled launch time. Guests with personal watercraft will drop off vessels at WaterTrail Ventures, drive their car to Hacklander where they will be shuttled back to Water Trail Ventures to start the paddle. If you are renting equipment from Watertrail Ventures, you will be paying at the launch day off.
