October 3rd Kalamazoo Area: Krazy for the Kazoo “Trash Bash“

Contact: Bela Ballez(krwc@kalamazooriver.org) Event Description: Come together and take part in cleaning up the Kalamazoo River Watershed with options to participate, on shore, in the river, and in Portage Creek. Clean-up the watershed while the water levels are low and the currents are slow; Fall is the perfect time to care for the river.
Join us for cleanup 10am-12:30pm, you choose where you’d like to participate: walk on shore on the KRVT from Mayor’s River Waterfront Park to Verburg Park, wade in Portage Creek from Stockbridge towards Upjohn Park, or paddle on the Kalamazoo River by kayak or canoe from Mayor’s Riverfront Park to Verburg.
Join us after the cleanup at our office (1523 Riverview Dr.) where we’ll have food from Mi Lindo Michoacán & yard games! All participants will be entered in a raffle drawing where they have two opportunities to win a gift card from a local Kalamazoo restaurant!
Arrival: Please arrive to your start location by 10:00am
What to expect: Food, refreshments, trash bags, gloves, and trash grabbers will be provided. Please bring your own waders if you wish to be in the creek.
Walk on shore on the KRVT – Meet at Mayor’s Riverfront Park at the pavilion near the playground.
Wade in Portage Creek – Meet at Stockbridge (street parking near 415 E Stockbridge Ave).
You will be required to bring your own waders for this option.
Paddle by kayak/canoe on the Kalamazoo River -Meet at Mayor’s Riverfront Park at the boat launch.
If you are participating on the river you will need to drop off your vessel at Mayor’s by 9:30am, we will help you shuttle your car to Verburg and get back to begin the clean-up at 10am.

Folks who are paddling will need to supply their own vessel, we will not have rentals for this event.

Contact: Jamie Ranger (jamie.ranger@macd.org), Greg Potter (hipboot@icloud.com) Event Description: Join us at Ketchum Park for Marshall’s annual Krazy for the Kazoo river stewardship event! Ketchum Park spans 25 scenic acres along Rice Creek, a prized coldwater tributary of the Kalamazoo River.
There are a number of environmentally important activities on our “To-Do” List for this location. Everyone is welcome! For anyone who would like to participate in caring for our waterways and land, we will find a way for you to contribute. Young children are welcome! We will have fun educational activities for young kiddos to do while you are volunteering.
Lunch will be provided at the conclusion of the event. You are then welcome to join the “after party” at Dark Horse Brewery.
In the event that we have a larger number of volunteers than expected, we will send overflow volunteers over to theCalhoun Conservation Districtvernal pool and its neighboring Bear Creek, another coolwater tributary of the Kalamazoo River.
Check-in: Everyone will check-in at Ketchum Park at 9:00 am at the pavilion on the skate park side
Lunch: Pizza and salad (provided by Jones & Henry) will be served at 1:00pm in the same pavilion. Beverages will be provided. (please provide dietary restrictions on registration form)
Activities: We will have a host activity at Ketchum Park and Calhoun Conservation district including- Invasive Species Removal with University of Michigan SEAS, Tree Planting with Marshall Area Conservation Corps, Stream Restoration with Kalamazoo Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Planting trees, and trash collection with Calhoun Conservation District.
Event Description: 25th Annual Krazy for the Kazoo Stewardship Day.
Bring your family, friends or just yourself to join us for a morning of community stewardship events. We’ll be picking up trash and planting native plants along the City’s Linear Path and parks.
We’ll meet at 8:30 am at the Department of Public Works (150 S. Kendall St., Battle Creek) for morning refreshments and to pick up supplies. We’ll meet back here to have a FREE box lunch from Pastrami Joe’s. FREE T-shirts while supplies last!
