Rain Barrel Building Workshop

DATE:  Thursday, June 14
TIME:  6:00 – 8:00 PM
WHERE:  Edison Neighborhood Association
816 Washington Ave., Kalamazoo 49001 (map)
COST:  $20 / rain barrel
HOSTS:  Community Homeworks, Kalamazoo River Watershed Council, Edison Neighborhood Association, and Vibrant Kalamazoo
SPONSORS:  Bell’s Brewery and Kalamazoo County Drain Commissioner

IN-PERSON REGISTRATION: Community Homeworks (810 Bryant St., Kalamazoo 49001)

During this workshop you’ll build your own rain barrel to collect rainwater from your roof.  Collecting and re-using rain waters protects our local streams and lakes and can help residents with minor drainage problems around the home. Space is limited to 20 participants – pre-registration is required (choose one of the options above).

The $20.00 registration fee includes the rain barrel and all of the materials needed to build your rain barrel. Barrels are food-grade 55-gallon plastic barrels donated by Bell’s Brewery. All necessary tools will be available on-hand thanks to Community Homeworks. During the workshop, instructors will show you how to assemble all parts of your rain barrel. You’ll learn about how to install and maintain your rain barrel, how to avoid pests like mosquitoes, and all of the many benefits of using one.  Vibrant Kalamazoo will provide free delivery for anyone unable to transport their rain barrel home after the event.

[Note: Income-qualified residents of Kalamazoo County should check with Community Homeworks to determine if you qualify for the workshop at NO COST. Contact them at (269) 998-3275 or education@communityhomeworks.org]
